Six man football teams converge on Gholson, Texas for Independent Bowl Series

Coaches from eight of the top ranked Six Man Independent Football Teams have agreed to meet in Gholson, Texas ISD football field on Saturday, November 11, 2017 to play a series of four six man football games.

This Independent Bowl Series will be a first of its’ kind in Texas, the National hot bed of Six Man Football.

Independents are teams not affiliated with any District, Conference or organization, they are, by definition Independent.

Independent teams come from ISD’s, Faith Based Schools, Charter Schools and Homeschool Associations. Teams from the Texas Panhandle, Central, South Central and East Texas will participate.

Traditionally these teams’ football season ends with the last regularly scheduled game of the season. Over the past two years, coaches began to talk about the possibility of a series of post season “Bowl” games to give their players, especially the seniors, an opportunity to experience one last memorable game to end their high school careers.

There are many different reasons that teams are in the Independent classification, it might be the costs, other sports, FFA activities or other conflicts of time or demands and responsibilities of the student – athlete that would prohibit them from going into a playoff series that could well extend into December.

With this in mind, the coaches decided that a “one and done” series of games, much like the old college Bowl Series, might be perfect for their teams and organizations. So they decided to meet in Gholson, 15 miles northwest of Waco and play each other according to the final rankings of sixmanfootball.com.
